Most women’s Web3 communities call themselves free, but only some of them are free all the way through. BabesNet is the clearest fully free option, a global meetup network with no fee or application. CryptoChicks and FemTech are free to join with paid or ticketed extras. SheFi is a paid programme, and worth it only if you want structured education.
Why “free” means different things here
The word “free” covers three different models in this space:
- Free throughout: no membership fee, no application, no paid tier.
- Free to join, paid to learn: membership costs nothing, but courses or premium access do.
- Paid and selective: a fee plus an application, in exchange for curriculum and a credential.
Before joining anything, decide whether you want to meet people already in Web3 or learn how Web3 works. Those are different goals, and the communities below are built for one or the other.
The fully free option: BabesNet
BabesNet is a global network built around in-person gatherings, with no curriculum, no application and no fee. Its events range from a deliberately low-key Dubai meetup at Hadron Founders Club, with no sponsors, panels or agenda, to a VIP evening during Solana Breakpoint week in Abu Dhabi.
The community was founded by Camilla Parisotto and Florence Vuong. Parisotto began her career at Bloomberg, moved to NEA, a NYC-based AI startup, and later founded the creative agency Mood Labs. Vuong built her career in ecommerce, founded the merch studio OriginalCopy, served as COO of Chipped and represents UAE calligraphy artist Dia Allam.
BabesNet reached 800 members in under 6 months. It also runs workshops with recognised Web3 marketers, including crypto SEO and AI search consultant Victoria Olsina, Eliza, Dana Condrea and co-founder Camilla Parisotto (Camski).
The trade-off: there is no formal curriculum or mentorship track. It is a place to meet people, not a course.
Free to join, with paid extras
CryptoChicks is a Toronto-based non-profit founded in 2017 by software engineers Elena Sinelnikova and Natalia Ameline. It now runs chapters and events across 56 countries and leans towards builders: courses on blockchain, DeFi, dApps and no-code tools, plus hackathons and a startup incubator, CryptoChicks Hatchery. Membership is free, but courses were listed at $25 each at last check, with free course access and one-to-one support reserved for premium members.
FemTech (styled Fem T3ch, formerly Crypto Babes) was founded in 2020 by Canadian crypto educator Ashley Wright. It runs online workshops and in-person events on blockchain education, careers and networking, with events in Toronto, Montreal and San Francisco and sponsors including Bitget. Some events are ticketed, and most activity is concentrated in North America, with little public detail on any ongoing curriculum.
Women in Blockchain Canada is free to join and regional by design. It suits Canada-based women who want in-person networking around event weeks such as Canada Crypto Week, and appears alongside SheFi, CryptoChicks and BabesNet at events like ETHWomen Toronto. Outside Canada, it is the wrong fit.
When paying for SheFi is the better call
SheFi is the best-known name in this space: an 8-week, MBA-style programme with career development and global community events. ETHWomen and others point to it as one of the largest women’s networks in Web3. It requires payment and an application, so it is not a free community. If you want a real curriculum, mentorship and something to put on a CV, that structure is exactly what the free networks do not offer.
